Graphene Inks

Haydale’s unique functional inks provide performance enhancements and cost reductions. Our conductive and piezoresistive products offer a unique blend of nanomaterial enhanced and silver inks, which offer unique properties into the coating and paint markets for anti-abrasion, wear and corrosion.

Printing using conductive inks based on graphene formulations opens major technical innovation and commercial opportunities in electronics, sensors, optical and heating systems.

Biomedical Inks

Haydale’s biomedical inks present next generation solutions for monitoring chronic conditions such as diabetes and detecting other medical conditions.

Traditionally, biosensors used in applications such as blood glucose and uric acid testing, use metallics and carbon materials. Haydale’s biomedical inks reduce the use of metallics and meet the growing need for low cost, high volume, lightweight, flexible, and non-intrusive healthcare.

Functionalised Graphene also provides improved accuracy and speed to the patient tests. Off the shelf inks are available for glucose monitoring and diabetes management. Our inks are also award-winning for microRNA detection in kidney transplant treatment.

For medicine and healthcare, Haydale’s graphene enhanced biomedical ink technology offers:

  • Enhanced electrical conductivity through the HDPlas© process.
  • Improved accuracy and speed to patient tests.
  • Reduced use of metallics.
  • Cost effective, non-invasive and environmentally friendlier.
  • Detection and monitoring of chronic conditions down to microRNA levels for diabetes and kidney transplant treatment.

Heater Inks

Functionalised Graphene is an excellent thermal conductor making it a great material for the fabrication of printable graphene inks for use in a range of applications such as heating elements, flexible and bendable electronics, and wearable technology.

Graphene has excellent electrical and thermal properties and Haydale has unlocked these performance enhancers using its HDPlas© technology to create a range of conductive heater inks that can be printed in different shapes and sizes on substrates such as flexible plastics, composites, insulated metal foils, fabric, or wood.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating has become a popular way to heat the home in recent years. It offers homeowners a more efficient heating system with the radiant heat delivering an even spread of heat throughout a room rather than convection heating that creates warm and cool air flow in a room.

The efficiency of underfloor heating can lead to cost savings. However, current systems are either water-based (pipes) or electric (loose or embedded wires), which can present issues for fitting in terms of flexibility, weight and installation time.

Haydale’s heater inks are energy efficient needing less power and potentially offer a cheaper way of heating your home compared to current underfloor heating systems, which are high voltage (230V) electric or water-based systems.

Mobile Heating

There is also a market in mobile heating applications in caravans, motorhomes and camper vans.

The low-power solution also has potential applications in situations where the gas supply is cut off for heating water.

For heating applications, Haydale’s Graphene enhanced heating technology offers:

  • High heat efficiency at low power requiring less power to run.
  • Moisture resistant and chemically inert making it durable and robust.
  • High functional temperature up to 120oC.
  • Rapid thermal response to applied voltage, RT → ~60oC in 60 seconds
  • Uniform heat distribution reducing the occurrence of hot spots and irregular heat distribution.

Security Inks

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify, and track tags attached to objects, animals and people.

Currently some of the RFID devices in use contain acid etched metallics, which can be difficult to recycle having a negative impact on landfill.

Using HDPlas©, Haydale has produced Graphene-base solutions for security applications. The Graphene-enabled printed RFID antennas reduce the metallic content in devices and by using flexographic printing process there is the potential for volume application.

Unlocking Graphene widens the application into other areas of printed electronics including chemical and thermal sensors, supercapacitors and packaging.

This is just a selection of our ink products and applications. Contact our print team for more information on the formulations available for your specific application or product.
